I'm Only Sleeping

The Beatles started to experiment with sound well before Sgt Pepper, and some of the songs on Revolver provide some good examples of things they were getting into. This song has some backward tape loops and what sounds like a sitar, and the feel of the song is kind of slow and sluggish (to match the lyrics). I decided to triple my voice to have my version feel a little sluggish as well. I left out the tape loops in the middle and the entire instrumental bit at the end. I used a sound called 'Echo Drops', together with a cello, to do the instrumental in the middle. It sounds a little sleepy to me.

I recorded this song at too fast a tempo. When I was finished, I used Cakewalk to stretch it out. I think it is still faster than the original, but it sounds OK to me. I used the 'Length' effect to stretch the song out to 107% of the original recording.

Voices: Piano, Bass, Tambourine, Drums, Cello, Echo Drops.
